Hey guys,
I am looking for a big bin that I can use as a sump. Any suggestions? I don't want to use a glass tank because it's going out side, it will be covered up, needs to be drilled and probably would cost more money. So another glass tank is not an answer for my case. I want a bin within the range from 150 gal to 200 gals, even 250 gal might be acceptable. I ran across Arca System site and looked through their bins. They are an option, but I am not too happy on their bins' dimesions. So I am wondering if their are other companies.

P.S. this isn't a WTB thread, just trying to get some info, like brand names.

hi.
You can used fiberglass tank (300 gal) for about $100 each. Check with the material handling company and see if they have them around.

Aonther option is to build them out of wood and plastic liner, but you will have to get the plumbing over the side, instead of drilling it....

Do you have Agway or farm supply stores near you? Rubbermaid stock tanks come in lots of sizes. I think my 75 gallon was around $50.

Dan,
I was thinking about checking out a feed store near me.

Danm,
Money wise, I would like to set it up under $500. It has to have strong walls, its going in a waist high plastic shed-like container. Also, I am going have to insulate the container's walls, so it can't warp much, because the insulation would fall off and probably won't be able to close the shed doors after awhile.

Menards. I dont know if they have those on the West coast, I never saw one until I moved to Iowa. But just any Home Depot or Lowes should carry them. Also try "Feed and Seed" type farm stores, since they are for livestock.

CR: Hit your local Tractor Supply Center, Menards, Quality Farm and Fleet, etc. Any store that sells products for raising and maintaining livestock like hogs, cattle, horses, etc. Look for their Rubbermaid livestock watering troughs. The local Tractor Supply Store (TSC) has the 50 gal (4x2x1 - ovoid) for $50, the 75 gal for $60, etc. They have them up to 300 gal IIRC and the price for that wasn't much over $100-$150.

To see a pic head over to http://www.rubbermaid.com/hpd/consumer/ ... list.jhtml and in the upper right hand corner click on "Hardware/Seasonal." On the next page, click on "Stock Tank and Tack Box". That shoudl list all of the stock tanks they have.

See if this works.

This is the 100 gal version. I have the 150 g version.

Sometimes people use the 300 g version for a "reef pond" and keep bamboo sharks in it, because it is round.

It has a drain in the very bottom of one side, I (well, my more mechinically inclined better half) built a stand pipe in the trough down to the drain, and that connects to the return pump. Some people have drilled them for more holes, but that is something I have not done.

These are very sturdy sumps, I regularly sit on the side on my sump and watch the critters come out and play in the sandbed I have in there.
