I have a question for experienced aquarists:

In your opinion, are there any tools, accessories, or other hardware-type items which aren't readily available for home aquarists but would be very useful?

I've had to make a few items of my own when working on my aquariums, and I'm sure others have had similar needs. It seems to me that there's a gap in what's available.

I've had some success solving problems with useful inventions for the underwater photography world (see www.gbundersea.com if you're curious) and I'd be very interested in pursuing the possibility of making items that could help all us home aquarists. It's been awhile since I've sunk tons of money and time into a new invention, and I'm just dumb (or persistent? yeah, that's what I say!) enough to do it again.

Let me know if there are indeed items which you find yourself wishing existed. All your thoughts are most appreciated.

I'd like to see a "smart" automatic glass cleaner. That's about all I can think of at this point.

I would like to see someone invent a cure for this disease that causes me to throw so much good money in to a tub o water :!:

I would also like to see a surge protector type extension cord thingy(can't remember the real name) that has a couple of timers incorporated into it so that you can control when certain things come on.

Ok, I have a couple.

I have a large tank that is also deep.

1. A rigid long acrylic scraper with an adjustable angle about mid way that may even telescope for different jobs. It must be very rigid so you can apply some pressure at the long setting. Maybe a buffing attachment to secure some very fine sandpaper like the stuff used for taking out fine scratches. This would need to be larger and flat with a swivel so you can buff large areas.

2. Even more important to me would be some long high quality graspers with good dexterity to grab broken frags but strong enough to be able to move small live rock chunks. If these could be adjusted then even better.
If there were different attachments for the end that would be cool also, like tongs, spear to feed shrimp, hook to grap broken rubber bands, Ice tong type end to pick up bigger rocks, cutters to make frags from corals deeper in the tank, pliars etc...

3. Floating view box to see into my tank easier from the top while working.

4. I agree with another poster about an automated frozen food feeder but that would be very expensive as it would require refridgeration and lots of automation.

5. How about a robot that would take care of everything 24/7 :D
