Last week I ordered some fish from the Marine Center.

a pair of Carpenter's Flasher wrasse
Pseudochromis elongata, and unusual dottyback
white-ray shrimp goby

I've gotten used to well packaged orders, but MCs are insane. They ship the fish in very large volumes of water.

The wrasses are doing great hanging together and eating a lot. I'm pretty sure they are Paracheilinus flavianalis though, but they still are nice. The dottyback was very small but sweet looking. The goby is beautiful, and ate immediately.

The dottyback and goby both vanished into the rocks. I saw them the first couple of days, but am getting a bit nervous now. I have a lot of very porous rock to hide in and a ton of worms for the elongata to eat, but still...

Since the dottyback and goby are both hiders, I would give them a bit more time to resurface, especially if you saw them both eat.

How big is your tank, anyway?

Peace,

Chip

Hey Dan got a pic of the white-ray goby?

I know what you mean about TMC's packing. Be prepared to break out in a sweat when opening up the packages!!!!!

The yasha or yashia (which is correct?) gobies are $49 at The Marine Center. I'd love to get a pair, but they hide. If I'm spending that much on a goby, it'd better be out and about where I can see it.

:)

Peace,

Chip

Yep, its startling how tall that dorsal is in person. Mine is small, not much over an inch, but looks like the pic.

Thanks, seamaiden...I'm not sure which site I read that on, but there's at least one out there that lists it as "yashia" instead of "yasha."

I've seen them called "yashia" gobies as well, and "yasha haze" or "yasha hase". www.liveaquaria.com carries them also. Technically speaking, the scientific name is NOT Stonogobiops yasha, although that site lists it as such. It has not been formally described, and should thus be referred to as Stonogobiops sp.

Another awesome picture here http://www.cosmos.ne.jp/~aoki/yasha.htm , with a comparison between the male and female. Males have a black spot on their pelvic fin.

Dan, mine didn't come out for the first 6 or 7 days either. I feared she was dead. When I added a Alpheid shrimp she came right out to meet it. So far I haven't been able to get her to eat anything but live artemia nauplii, but when she does she's fairly bold. I'm hoping the firefish I added will cause her to be a bit more brave.
