I think they make an accessory that you can buy to stop that. Bubble box or something to that effect. Look on MarineDepot.com

Yes they will. It takes maybe a week or two. It says it on the paper you get with the skimmer

At least two weeks, maybe 3 or more. I had the skimmer box since day 1, and my bubbles are just starting to go away now, entering week 3.

Hey guys,
I just started a new reef tank and its my first time using a skimmer so not quite sure how its spose to work. I've got a cheapo Queen Turbo TS-2000.
What do you guys mean by micro bubbles, cos thats what I'm gettin. What is it spose to change into? larger bubbles? Not gettin much froth either, but I'm seeing alot of "micro" bubbles.

They dont change into large bubbles and wont start to really produce foam until a few weeks have gone by. (Something to do with the PVC)
The micro bubbles that are produced act like a magnet for bad things in your water and then they bring them to the top and spill into your collection cup. The bubbles will stay small and if working properly your collection cup will fill up with gunk from your tank you didnt even know was there. 8O Hope this helps

you will get less as your skimmer "breaks in" but aqua c also makes a surface skimmer accessory that helps reduce any you might get there after. It is also nice to have as it increases the efficiency of the skimmer due to drawing surface, amino acid/protein, rich water.

Thanks for ur answer Supaboy.
If the microbubbles are a good thing, then why does 420puff & jcm1229 want them to subside or are trying to get rid of them with a Bubble box ?? Or am I misunderstanding something here?? Are u guys talkin about microbubbles produced in the tank or the skimmer??

I have had my Remora for over a month now and the bubbles have not gone away one bit. I hate it so much. I sent an e-mail to them but the reply was.. Since I have a small bio-load the skimmer creates more micro-bubbles and also since it is a 20g they are more noticeable.

HHMMMMM.

That is probably true I would think anyone there would steer you the wrong way. I have met most of them and have heard numerous stories of them giving great advice (particularly Jason) as well as free upgrade parts.

The Box he is talking about is a surface skimmer box that takes water directly from the top of the tank where the "proteins" tend to form a surface film. I am not sure the box does anything for the RETURNof micro bubbles back into the tank which is an eyesore for many reef aquarists and the bubbles 420 and JCM are talking about. Hope this answers your questions

i got the skimmer prefilter box dealio for my remora hang on ... it works great at keeping microbubbles out of the tank (there were still some after about a month of operation). tho, it hangs off that pump that sticks into the tank, so it causes it to slide off a lot. find a way to prop it up with rocks or some such ...

i also had the remora HOB skimmer on my tank for approx 2 months... and the micro bubbles never went away. i was extremely disappointed in that skimmer and ended up selling it for dirt cheap. that was my experience with anyways. hth, peace.
