I have a Griffisi angel in my tank and it presents no problems to my inverts. The problem, actually, is it won't eat anything but live foods :?

I've had far worse luck with Centropyges.

Hey ryan-lalande,

I've got a Fiji Regal Angel (Pygoplites diacanthus) in my reef, and it's OK with SPS, but not with softies. He used to pick at my Nepthea but never even looks at the Litophyton (at least not that I've seen). Also picks on button polyps and clams, but only as "exploration" (e.g., when things are first introduced into the tank). It usually stops picking at stuff after about a day or two though.

Other than that, it's been pretty cool...I haven't tried putting LPS in the current iteration of my tank though (may try to add a Scolymia some time). I've also learned that angels love Xenia (from past experiences), so I'm assuming that anything with "frilly" polyps like Xenia or Clavularia might not be safe (though I may try down the road).

Hope this helps,
Thomas

P.S. I don't recommend Regal Angels unless they're the first first in the tank...they can be pretty shy at first and I think they need to be very comfortable in their surroundings to acclimate properly to a tank. For the most part, a lot of people have problems with them....

Mr. Siegel's articles about Angels in reefs are really great.

From my experience many of the large Angels can be put in a reef but must be SPS and triancid clams only.

with LPS there will be a problem, as they will eat corals like Scolymia, Cynarina Trachiphyllia and other open brains.

Closed brains like Favia and Favistes are on the gray area, means, some will eat them and some wont,I'll give you an example from my tank, where I keep an Asfur for 3 years with a magnetic green maze coral.
The Asfur was never intersted in the maze, one day I went to the shop and saw a rock with exactly the same maze coral got starting to grow on it, I took it home, put it in the tank and after 2.5 minutes the Asfur was all over it!
Both mazes were exactly the same colors.
Only difference were the size and the fact that the one on the rock was just starting to form and to grow out of the rock.
