and I've heard it kicks up a lot of dust. My fishtank is in the connecting family room.

What can I do to protect the tank from this dust?

I thought about covering it with a sheet for a couple of days but, I have to be careful about not letting the tank get too hot here in Texas.

Your suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Ceramic is generally pretty innate so I'm guesing it won't be too huge of a problem. To avoid dust, however, I'd personally still cover the tank with tarp and run less lights (for example, if you have MH and fluorescents, just run the fluorescents). I'm not sure how your house is laid out, but maybe it's possible to put a big tarp dividing the room. If not, you can also position some recirculating fans to blow the dust away from the tank. I think the tile layers may have some suggestions as well, so it's worth asking.

make sure you turn off any fans in the area . but just make sure they do all of the cutting of the tile away fromt he take or outside or in a garage. and mixing the cemeant. other than that there should not be much dust

Ceramis are inert, also!

I have put tile down without much dust; I would be watchful but not worry too much. If you really want to protect an aquarium from something like this you can build a supported tarp-tent over the whole thing. To keep dust out of it you can create a postitive air-pressure from within by ducting air driven by fan from a clean room into the tent. A hassle to be sure but probably would work.

No! Ceramics contains aluminum, and window glass contains silica, one is toxic, while the other give you bad diatomic bloom!
