Just bought a Royal Gramma and am struggling to find him a name. I usually wait to see a fish's personality before committing.

My Yellow Tang - Bart (yeah I know, real original)
Flamehawk- Hawkeye (M*A*S*H fan)
Bangaai- E.T. (self explanatory)
Ocellaris- Little F@$%#& (she bites  )

Royal Gramma (TBD???)

Anybody else?

i name them but i dont really use the names... my clowns name is binky but i just say the clown fish when i talk to people or when i point him out....the only name that really replaced its description was my shrimp who was named ***** after herangry stance whenever anyone came near and her willingness to pinch a hand many times her size

Ok, a bit of a disclaimer here...I'm not the one who names the fish. My dad and stepmom and best friend have named most of them. They also like to name my corals and other inverts occasionally. There's a story for them all, so forgive my long answers. But, like you said, Expo, I always wait to see what their personality is. And, to make sure they're not going to die, cause once you name them it's so much sadder!!

Yellow Tang - Lemonjello (as in lemon jello...my stepmom's sister was having a baby, and her roomate named her baby lemonjello after reading it off the hospital menu. 8O Poor baby! Illiteracy strikes again!)
Algae Blenny - Horatio (as in Horatio Alger, some early 20th century novel hero, according to my father)
Blue-Green Chromis - Mario and Luigi (need you ask?)
Blue Streak Cleaner Wrasse - Hoover  my favorite name
Frogspawn coral - Kermit, of course
L.T. Anemone - Hairy
Carpet anemone - broccoli (stepmom thinks it looks like a bunch of buggers, but I refused THAT name!)
Bubble Tip Anemone - Rosie (pink)

We've yet to name our three ocellaris (they're pretty new), and a few other corals. And my squamosa clam...stepmom is working on that one. I'm just not creative enough!

I name all of my pets. I reason that if you have a cat of dog you name it, so why not your pet fish. I think that people who name their fish show that they have a genuine attachment to them and it is easier to point them out when you talk about them to your friends. Then again maybe I am a little off my rocker cause I name my house plants too!

I kept a pair of Oscars for a few years and named them, Myers ( as in Oscar Myers) and Grouch as in "Oscar the Grouch"!

I agree with louey that naming fish is stupid. I named a couple of mine in a weaker moment and they stuck for some reason that frightens me. I also tickle them under the chin occasionally. Not.

All of my fish are named Steve. (If you've ever seen the movie Multiplicity, then you'll get the joke.)

I also had a miniatus grouper named "Fat Bastard" because he ate anything that you put into the tank. "Get in my belly!"
