These products detoxify copper. I was using poly and amquel last week to help two sick clowns (the amquel was to combat the negative effect of antibiotics on the biofilter).
I have done two 25% water changes and I haven't put any of this stuff in the water for a few days.
Still, after adding the recommended dose of coppersafe, which has always given a value of 1.5ppm before, the value is around .5-.75ppm. I assume that these products are binding the copper up because the tank is bare with only PVC and I am not running carbon in the filter.
Is it safe to continue adding coppersafe until I reach the proper value of 1.5-2ppm?
Once the copper is bound by the chemicals in these products, can it "unbind" and suddenly raise the copper level enough to kill the fish?
I plan on doing another 25% water change everyday and re-dosing the copper until it gets to the right level.....good or bad plan?
Thanks all
