If a replace my three 150w MH HQI light set up with three 250w MH HQI will I see a big improvement in my coloration and growth rates of LPS/SPS corals? Tank is a 110gal, I plan on going bigger in the future.

Thanks

Dave

Depends how deep it is and there's many other pieces of kit that will improve growth rates.

Calcium reactor
Kalkwasser Reactor
Increased circulation

give us a run down and im sure someone could point out the chinks in your armour.

I did exactly this on one side of my 450 gallon tank, and yes there has been a major change. Growth rates have improved and colors have changed. You will definitely see a diference.

Answer to the above questions:

Bulbs are currently 10 000k also have 4 actinic bulbs in there as well
current tank is 18 inches deep, have calcuim reactor, large skimmer, ro/di water, chiller, controller, I've got all the toys....
all my water conditions are excellent and stable , lots of random circulation

My corals do grow, not fast, I feel that I'm missing out on some bright/intense colors.

Thanks

Well if you plan to go bigger in the future then you may want to either get the 250's or 400's. It's up to you. If you're going bigger, you may want to go straight for the 400's, but I dunno.

He can always hang them higher for right now. Really it depends on what his upgraded tank height will be...

Depth of my "future" tank would not be to much deeper, I'm thinking 22 inches.

I'm restricted with height of my lights in my current set up. The lights right now are about 12 inches off the water, will 250w bulbs work at this height??

Thanks for the advice

dave
