I purchased by first 160 gallon bucket today. I do very much like the screw top lid, but I think I paid only $3 less than I did for the 200 gallon I got last time. :?

Sometimes I feel like this hobby is expensive. :P

In our wholesale book I've seen the 160 g pail and the 200 g bag/box. Not a lot of price difference per ... less than the cost of a bag.

The screw-top pail sounds very much like the pail that Seachem sells their salt in. You squeeze the hook and spin the lid.

I would think that the fancier pail is more expensive. The box/bag bulk pack for the 200 gallon salt would save money, for sure.

Curious to see if this changes Kent's salt packaging at all, since Aquarium Systems packages Kent's salt too...

Haven't heard.

That makes sense...probably the reason why the 160 and 200 were so close in price. In any case, I'm definitely gonna look into this bag/box you were talking about. :D

Tell me about it. I just lugged home a 200 gallon. Nothing like doing water changes at home after doing them at work all day...

At work we get "professional size" 200 gal boxes of IO by the skid. Each box contains 4 clear un printed 50 gal bags.

I do wish they would offer it to the hobby, as I too hate carrying those buckets, plus I now have quite a collection of them cluttering up my fishroom.

One can never have too many buckets :D

It's feast or famine with buckets around my shop - either I have 30 of them cluttering up the back room, or I can't find one when I need one!

Hmm according to my wholesaler, the price difference between the pail and the box is less than $2. Yet there is a $6 difference between the 160 pail and the 200 pail. Weird.

That means that the new pail is proportionately cheaper than the old pail, but the box is still a best value. There is no mention whether the box is meant for store use or resale.... guess I'll have to order to find out?

O.K. We just got the new pricing from our distrubutor.

We currently sell the 200 gallon bucket for $58.50. If we apply the same markup, we'll be selling the 160 gallon bucket for $49.95.

We sell the 50 gallon bag for $16. So the bag vs. bucket equation was: $58.50 for the bucket, and $64 for the same amount in bags.

But, they changed the bag to 55 gallons with no cost change, so the equation is now: $49.95 for 160g bucket, or $48 for 165g in three bags.

So I guess you have to ask yourself if the bucket itself is worth $1.95, and getting 5 gallons less salt. :?: :!:
