THe first thing I bought for my tank was a couple of turbo snails. The first coral I got was this cabbage leather, that I still have. It was free and about the size of a quarter now it is about 6" round.
Blue damsel I know, not very creative, but that's my first fish. First coral was a brain coral, and I was mesmorized by it. I remember the days I drooled for Elegance and Fox corals, and the (then) super rare blue Maximas.
Blue damsels. But they don't count cause eveyron gets rid of them. So I killed two birds with one stone and purchesd a NEW first inhabitant --- a lion.
My first saltwater tank was a complete disaster. I had a few damsels, a flame angel and a skilter. Somehow I managed to knock my strip light into the tank and electrocute my fish and myself and kill everything. My next attempt (after much research on the hobby) was much more successfull. I got a heteractis malu anemone and a clownfish named mr crankypants and I still have them to this day more than 4 years later (along with a mater for mr crankypants who soon turned into a mrs crankypants). Anyways a poor beginning but a learned adventure.
My first critter was my Chocolate chip star...still have him...my first coral was some yellow colony polyps(zoanthus or something like that) they were free...actually thats what got me started in this....the gift of free coral ...First fish were (cuz i got two at once) was a mandarin fish and a clark clown...Talk about risque for a first fish...I didnt know any better....both of which are now deceased...the clown died of whatever...the mandarin committed hari kari about 3 months ago...but i had him for about 6months before that happened...i have since gotten a new one and he is doing good...
