Hey Laura,

There's several good choices I recommend for coral ID and general husbandry:
Aquarium Corals : Selection, Husbandry, and Natural History
by Eric H. Borneman

Corals: A Quick Reference Guide
by Julian Sprung

Invertebrates: A Quick Reference Guide
by Julian Sprung, Daniel Ramirez

Those three are easy to read and give you a good start in selecting corals and inverts. I don't know of any book I consider complete and thorough (there's simply too many species and too much info to assimiliate) but these three will give you a solid foundation.

Also check out Reefs.org's reading recommendations:

Hope that helps, and welcome to our community! :)

Well for pictures of SPS id's try the 3 vol series Corals of the world by JEN Vernon it is uncomparable to most other sources but not the best book for newbies. I have huge library and still reference Reef Aquarium Vol 1 and 2 by delbeek and sprung. Great books! Now if they would just come out with 3 and what ever happened to Reef fishs vol 2 from Scott Micheal?
