Euroreef Skimmer 6-3

I'm considering the Euroreef Skimmer 6-3 for my 110g tank, but was wondering if anyone had any input on how tall the tank stand would have to be to easily manuever the scum cap for cleaning. If I understand correctly, the cap comes off the top, you dump the scum, cap goes back on ... easy as pie, unless I build the stand too short.

I need to balance the height of the stand between the room required for this manuever while still having the top of the tank accessible to some of the shorter people in the house for feeding, etc.

Euroreef uses a union to hold the collection cup on the skimmer. Essentially you shouldn't need more than 1" clearance if it is a union. However, I will temper that with the fact that I've never actually seen one in person. Maybe Len or some other Euroreef owners will chime in here.

I'm not trying to to change your mind or anything. euroreef is a very good skimmer. I personally have never seen one or used one and I don't like having to pay for a name .Have you looked at a ASM skimmer? It's identical to a euroreef. Granted the quality of material is not as good as a euroreef. but that never bothered me because I do not plan on playing football with it. And the best thing about it . it does the same thing for less money. That is just food for thought both skimmer are very good.

I'm paying for the euro reef (it's supposed to be here tomorrow! Yay!). I look at it this way: I've read the reviews written by people who own these skimmers. I've talked to len and a lot of other reefkeepers over the past year and everyone either has a euro reef skimmer, or wishes they did.

I'm impressed with the reviews, I'm impressed with the high recommendations from many reefkeepers and lfs owners across the country. The glowing praise from so many sources can only mean one thing in my mind, this is a damned fine product.

As far as the clearance, I would talk to some folks about how much room they need to remove their collection cups, then I would up that estimate by an extra inch, to be sure that you have plenty of space ;-)

ITs a quick union connection between the cup and skimmer. You would need no less than 1/2" clearance.

Yup, you need virtually no clearance room above to remove the skimmer.

For a 110g, a CS6-2 will be more then plenty in my experience. No harm, however, in going bigger if you wallet can handle it

Since we discuss about the Euroskimmer, can someone help setup the skimmer in order to get rid of the micro bubbles. I am having a miserable time to setup it up for the last couple weeks. As soon as I turn it off, most of them are gone. Thanks

jle, caught this question in another thread. Will repost what I put there so you will see it.

Mine came with a sponge that attaches to the pipe where skimmed water comes out of the skimmer and goes back into the sump. If you have that set at the right level (just barely above the surface of the water in the sump) I don't think there really is a problem with microbubbles, but I've only had mine for a day.

Good skimmers, I've been using a CS6-3 for about 4 years now, I love it. They are very close to the ASM but no where near as well built. ASM doesn't make but a few small sizes, or at least that's they way it was a few years ago. Do they even make one the same size as the CS6-3?

In case anybody is interested I'll post a picture of mine with a littile mod I did to get rid of that stinking sponge.

i've got a 5-2 right now (just for my little 30) but was wondering what kind of goodies might work out for it. getting rid of the sponge is a good first step.

how much did you have to tweak it to get it foaming good? - just slide the riser as usual?

Yeah, the riser tube on the CS models are 1.25" PVC. Tweaking the skimmer works the same. For the most parts you just set it and forget it. I like a wetter foam so I set it a little low.

jle2003, I don't think its going to help with bubbles. The main reason I did it was to get rid of the sponge.

My skimmer was finally skimmed now. This morning I found lot of waste in the collection cup. I plan to run it for couple more days before cleaning the cup. How often we have to clean the cup? and do I need to turn off the skimmer? My tank now has less micro bubbles from the return pipes, but still some there. Will they go away in a period of time?

Don't forget to leave enough room to get the skimmer into and out of the sump after tank setup. I liked the first one so much, I got another one for my office setup. I would leave 1" for clearance. I also have an ETSS wich is harder to maintain.
