I have a 115g reef that is simply running too hot, 82 degrees in the late afternoon... I have 3 large fans running on the setup today, 2 in the canopy, 1 in the sump.... they are not doing the job... I have gotten the green light for the funds for a chiller from the wife... Does anyone feel strongly about certain brands and or types (drop in vs. inline)?? I'm planning on getting a 1/4hp...

I'm currently looking at Aqua Logic, Custom SeaLife, Arctica Titanium.

Thanks
Chris

My Aqualogic has been going strong (outdoors, no less) for about 8 years now. I can confidently recommend them.

Get inline. Drop-ins are harder to set up and aren't as efficient. I should also warn that chillers produce a good deal of heat and are noisy, so you'll want to consider plumbing it outdoors or to a basement.

as len mentioned, get an inline unit. they are much more effcient than a drop in type.

aqualogic are workhorses but tend to be on the noisier side. if you cannot plumb the chiller outdoors, i would get an artica chiller. i have seen and heard the 1/4 and 1/3 hp units in action and they are by far the quietest chillers i have ever come across.

hth.

thanks for the feedback, unfortunately I do not have the luxury of being able to plumb the unit outside or in a basement etc... So it sounds like the Arctica Titanium Aquarium Chillers may be the way to go... Does anyone have any strong negative feelings towards these chillers?
