The yellow tang that I have has tiny black dots all over him. They aren't in the skin; best way to describe it is the tang looks like it got dirt on him. This is the only fish in the tank that has it...appeared while i was gone to biology lab. so like within....10 hours?

I'm temptin to try and just brush it off him and see if it falls off. Maybe it is just dirt? I was thinkin maybe some kinda parasite...anyone else have any idea what this is?

Sorry...don't know the water params for right now...I need to get my buddy to test it. I'm out of kits.

What your most likely seeing is a parasite, black spot or "black ich". Do some research, if this is what your tang has it will need treatment. HTH

Sounds like black ich to me too.

As far as trying to brush it off - that would be some trick! :)

Sounds like black ich to me also. I treated mine with garlic soaked food for about 4-5 days and it worked. Don't know if that's what did it or not, but it couldn't hurt to try.

Good Luck.

You guys.. sheesh, black ich is one of the EASIEST parasites to deal with, so easy it's usually practically eliminated in the hobby.

Freshwater dip him, PeeJ. I like to use methylene blue in the dip as well, just drop in enough that it turns a dark blue. If your tank has NO invertebrates, then you might lower the salinity to ensure it's completely gone.

I agree with seamaiden completely. If you can catch the tang that will fix your problem vey quickly. My problem was I couldn't catch mine without disassembling the tank, and assumed the same for you. I know, you should never assume anything.
