Help with brown algea

Please take a look at what i am dealing with.

The tank has been set up for about 4 months. I have treated for red slime but it seems to be more like an algea then a slime. I have added plenty of snails, blue legged hemits and other animals for the cleaning crew. What am I dealing with and how do I get rid of it?

be patient in the begining its fairly normal to go thru some hairy algea out breaks.
just keep cking your chemistry nitrates in particular and keep doing your water changes.
you should be using some sort of ro water and in my opinion not using water treatment stuff like stress coat to get rid of chlorine or metals in your tap water.
add a few algea eaters and fold your gravel over and vacume it during water changes.
a uv sterilizer also helps

p.s.
theres also a product i think its called t.l.c. that competes for the nutrients in the water taking it from the algea

try reducing your photo period.

a uv sterilizier will help..but keep in mind, all the great bacteria that you have been building up will also be zapped by the uv.....seems like fighting yourself.

I think every tank I ever started went through something similar.

What's your setup/filtration/livestock etc?

hook up a fuge with chaeto and a strong light source. add a few snails and hermit crabs and basically, you will have a maintenance free parameter tank. i haven't tested my water for whatever in months and i check my sg about twice a month.

yes, all my stoney corals and clams are growing like crazy.

i routinely and intentionally overfeed my fishes after my fuge matured.

i had the same problems with cyano, hair and dino's. it sucked.

i have been there with the uv and ozone, carbon etc but after all that, i feel that no man made piece of equipment comes close to the power of mother nature.

i do skim a little but it is just a left over habit. i will probably be taking it offline in a few months.
