Any good forums for discus? My wife is intersted in setting up a Discus tank and I wanted to find out what this will involve.

TIA

Come on I know some of us have to have reefs and Discus tanks!

Ben, Check out DAAH. That's the discus forum I use. Lots of fine folks there. I've been keeping discus for a few years now, lot's of fun. It's really cheaper than a reef tank, although I love my reef tanks too!

they're just abit fussy, demand pristinely clean, warm water, and if they're happy, are fascinating and very active and intelligent fish-getting them to spawn is not as difficult as some may tell you, either

I've found that when keeping them in groups(which you should do unless they are a breeder pair) they will pair up and spawn themselves if they are healthy and happy!

there have been a lot of changes to Discus care in the last decade which has made keeping these extravagent beauties possible for even the novice aquarist...

I have a 90 gal planted tank that has 2 red-spotted and 2 blue diamonds and they do like water changes. As for being hard--I would say not any harder than a reef tank. I keep the temperature at 82 degrees and use only RO/DI that has been adjusted for mineral balance.
I do bi-weekly to tri-weekly water changes--depending on what I'm feeding and how often. If you don't do water changes--don't bother getting Discusfish.
I would have to say that keeping both plants and the Discus is the hallmark of freshwater aquarium keeping. :D

Yeah, I agree. I never kept them in a planted tank until this past fall. The tank looks way better, and my marlboros seem much happier with all the new places to "hide" among the plants.
