I am looking for a pump that will move about 1200 gph. It is a return pump from the sump. Also I need an opinion on weather it should be internal or external. Pros and cons of both.
I recommend external. They don't heat up the tank as much, which is the biggest benefit. Some internal pumps that drive 1000+gph are also quite sizable and may take up too much space in the sump (if they even fit). I recommend Iwaki MD30RLXT if it's for circulation purposes.
I love my Blueline Pump. Check out their models for that level of return.
Also, check locally. I've gotten great deals on slightly used pumps from guys getting out of the hobby, moving or upgrading. One was still under warranty and the guy gave me his original reciept.
How are the Iwaki MD30RLXT pumps on noise? Also that pump only does 950 gph a @ 4' head. Also there is a WMD40RLXT that does 1200 gph @ 4' head. Will this one be noisy?
I would personally go with the 40. 1 inch lines to!! Only issue is the MD pumps are German and the WMD are american. Betweeen the 2 they are about the same on noise BUT the iwaki are generally a little louder than some of the other pumps (although I think the blueline is almost the same pump as the iwaki as it was designed after it.)
