Hello!

I am the one now responsible for all of those tangs. Tang police, it is ok, they are actually getting along very well. I have 5 yellows and one purple. They chase each other around from time to time, but for the most part school together. They are all in great shape and thriving.

The rest of the group is also doing very well. Although I am a rank newby, I am learning fast, and have my fish guy coming frequently to watch over things so that I don't blink wrong and kill all the fish.

I would be happy to answer any questions if you have them.

I see the lookout tower behind the tank.....
Do you have some pic's of that?

How do you like it?

The lookout is, well, not something we really needed (like a BBQ or Plasma TV). But it is not a problem. I used up my digital camera batteries on the few shots I have of the tank, so no other good pics for now. Maybe I will steal some from the remote later. There are a lot of still shots on the Monster House fansite.

You may also notice changes to the tank. We took out almost all of the rubber corals. Someday I would love to have the real thing, but I am falling for my clown trigger and my panther grouper, and that will be a problem. We also removed the big cover on top, because it blocked access, and it weighed about 60 pounds. And, we took out most of the larger, messy, and more delicate fish.

:P

So tell us all about your Monster House experience. We'd love to hear it. Also, what can we do to help you make your tank a success?

BTW, how did you hear about our BB? Google search? In any event, we're happy to see you hear. :D

I just about died when he said that. It was like the third take (yes, they do re-takes in Reality TV) and it was well past John's bedtime and he was at the end of his little 5 year old patience. The director wanted us to get out of the RV just one more time, and so when Steve knocked and said, are you ready to see your new Monster House? John answered, "Yes, for the last stinking time." We had about 30 friends and family just outside of the camera shot who started laughing, and the director yelled, "Cut! Perfect!" OMG! Not perfect!

As to how I found this site, I posted an update on the fish on the Monster House fansite, mentioning that I'd been helped by the good people on the boards at saltwaterfish.com. Another poster very kindly linked me here and to reefcentral and reefsomethingelse. I wasn't sure anyone on the Monster site really cared, but I was getting flamed for not "deserving" a monster house and not being "grateful" and thought it might be nice to draw attention to something pleasant like the fish. So here I am. :D

Tgallo! I used to live on East West Highway near Georgia Ave, right near the Metro stop. Back in my young single years, that is. Good old Silver Spring.

It was Seaviewaquariums.com. It is a fish service, rather than a shop. Dave, the owner, has been great helping me learn what to do. Each time he comes, he spends a lot of time talking to me about the fish and showing me what he is doing.

Congrats on the new tank! I saw the episode Monday night and wow did those guys work their tails off 8O ! That lookout tower is cool, but its a shame they didn't use all that work on a larger fish tank instead. Were you or any of your family interested in a saltwater fish tank before the show? I think its just awesome that we see you on here learning to be a responsible reefkeeper. Welcome to the club (addiction in most cases!) :D .

Undergrad-- we never spoke to the producers about the possibility of a tank, but we had good idea that one would be in the final result. I spent my week in the RV perusing fish boards. But not until after the show did I find out how much these really cost in maintenance if you have to pay someone to do it for you! Holy cow. ($75 a week, btw.) We are total newbies, so I am learning as fast as I can.

Reefann-- the tank itself is 250, with a 60 gal sump. I'm too new to give technical details, but the fish guy who set it up has photos of the build, and some specs, on his website: www.seaviewaquariums.com.
