As a moderator at Nano-Reef.com and long time member of this community, I must say that I am surprised that this thread has been allowed to stand. At Nano-Reef.com we don't allow board bashing, and I have removed threads for people bashing this and other boards in the past.
Lord Nikon is the type of person who obviously takes things a little too personally. When you post something about your setup on a reef board, sometimes you will get advice from others about your setup that points you in a different direction than where you were first headed. Is this a put down or attack? Not usually. Sometimes people critique your setup as well giving you their opinions of your stocking options.
So when someone warns you that your catalina goby is a cold water fish, and is not really the most suitable for a warm water "barrier reef" situation, there is no need to fly off the hook and start cursing them out. When someone suggests that you would need more flow to accuately portray the conditions of a true barrier reef, there is no need to curse that person out either.
I am sorry that you had such a traumatic experience over on www.nano-reef.com that you would need to post a bash thread on another forum, but I also think that this shows your level of mentality that ended you up in the situation in the first place.

The whole story is not being told here, but since the thread has been deleted it is no longer viewable. I made a comment that some just wanted to see pics and his reply to me was four letter words and such. I will not stoop to that level of immaturity. I even posted the most recent pic of his tank because he was having problems. If we are all bad, then why would we try to help? Yes, there are bad apples over there, (everywhere for that matter) but to make yourself sound like you are completely innocent is an incorrect assessment of that situation.

i agree it may be poor etiqutte to show pm's but it also shows (in this case) there are two sides to every story as birdy effectively points out imo.
i see now that nikon was every bit as biting as the others. otoh, i understand that perhaps he was provoked and that's the only reason i'm not completely siding against him. i can't really see the entire story due to the massive editing that occurred.
i disagree with you gil. i think it's good that the mods here have left this thread but keep it under close watch/tight leash. the mods here haven't commented on the modding at NR (to my knowledge) and that is a sign of respect for the nr mod's discretion. i think you should reciprocate.
perhaps this is more of a Sump topic but nevertheless free discussion is good imo. no place is perfect and criticism helps everyone as long as it's constructive.
i've always liked rdo's position about locking and even displaying the bad threads. it shows the real side (ugly at times, true). nikon didn't like that aspect of nr, that's his choice. heck, even sh.orgy can get rough at times. :lol: jmo

I try to think I have learned alot since starting this hobby. My collection of over 15 books have been read thru numerous times... and numerous reef sites.. I feel I have learned alot. I know how Nikon feels, I have felt that way before, and what I have found was, I was actually wrong, or misinformed.... Thankfully I didn't make many enemies in the process of learning... I still do not look at Nikon as an enemy, only misinformed and volatile, I will steer clear in the future, for shi*& and giggles, here is a pic of my tank so youall don't think I am trollin' Thanks again for the welcome... It is, however, my responsiblity to make sure we're all civil, constructive, and respectful in Reefs.org's forums. Let's all do our best to foster a good community. RDO tolerates them and even welcomes them as black sheep, NR moderates their threads, and RC eliminates their history and pretends they never existed. Ah I love board politics.
I do feel that NR is particularly clique-ish. It's difficult to go on NR chat without the gang of four mounting a brutal offense. My personal hypothesis is that nanos attract younger, poorer fans who tend to be predisposed to trying to assert authority. In the digital world, that can only be efficiently accomplished through ridicule. Which is why we sometimes see very childish flame wars on every board.

Its hard when you have people coming to our forum here and bashing LN just like the guy above(kalahakiiawawa etc..). Especially when he was wronged in the first place and when he stands up for himself there mods and members keep bashing him and then edit and chop his statements and anyone else that stood up for him.

I am a believer that everything - flattering or unflattering, positive or negative - can be discussed in a civil, mature fashion. Name-calling, accustory statements, backhanded slights, et. al. are rarely constructive. That's the main thing I'd like people in this thread to desist.
