What I am trying to find out is do you really need to add things besides ph/alk buffer, calcium or kalwasser? Things like DTs phytoplanktin or strontium and iodine. Are these really nessesary if you have strong lighting with a good photo period and do water changes regulary. I havnt added any of those products for a little over a year and am wondering even though my corals, clams, ect dont show it do they need it. I also know that adding to much can cause bad algae blooms because it boosts your excess nutrients. What are your opinions on this?

this poll won't work this way.

i use magnesium yet none of the other elements you list.
i have added phyto but consider it food.
i use carbon which is generally listed as an additive at shops.

i don't know how to answer your poll question.
even if i did use iodine and strontium, which of these should i list as i can't list both? and should i list either seeing as you haven't accurately explained what a vote denotes (as in 'use' or 'do not use').

might i suggest a poll asking if the member uses elemental supplements.
then ask them to list which they use.

For some reason when I post it the first time it says you must have at least 2 poll options when there is Yes and No. When I hit submit again it post it but its all messed up. ???

Well, I thought it was a joke. :D :D You might try PMing Len or Shane. FWIW, I don't use any supplements besides Kalk and a bit of DTs now and then, along with small regular WCs.

Other than Cal and alk I do not use any so I answered no. Regular water changes should take care of the trace elements.

Tad new to this whole thing and using some additives like Iodine, Strontium, and Magnesium and coral accel from Kent. I am likely to drop the coral accel, and I am unsure I should be bothering with the strontium, magnesium or iodine. When I get a good routine of water changes the salt should reintroduce trace amounts as needed of those and I can stick to adding just calcium, buffer and food.

Seems that most supplements are not of much use and good quality food and water are where it is at.

I would agree with that.
