Bicolor Blenny - MIA

Have any of you ever lost a blenny to an emerald crab. The blenny was 2.5" and the crab just reached adult green stage a few months ago. I guess I need closure. Thanks.

I checked the whole room. The tank's on a wooden floor, so it could have skipped around.

I suspect I have Emerald that came in a rock, its brown-grey (heary and small) and has green claws?????

Thanks. The rest of the cleaner crew led me to his remains this morning.

The crab was also a tan color before turning green.

No, but I have had a bicolor just dissapear, I am sure something ate it as I never found the body, whether it jumped out and the cats got it, or it died in the tank and was eaten by scavengers, I will never know.

You need closure.. oh man, you're breaking my heart! Look, if it wasn't the crab (an excellent likelihood) it could have been a brittle star that you haven't detected yet. Yes, it could happen!

I lost a firefish and 5 (yes FIVE) yellow tail damsels to a single Mithrax.

Hmm,,,I wonder how he's doing in my septic tank.

I know I had bad luck but I will never ever let anything except hermits and acro crabs live in my tanks.

(To those of you who say things like 'Gosh, I've had 15 Mithrax in my 400g for 4 years without a single problem": Shut your cakehole)

Those green brittlestars are notorious fish eaters. I only have the mini-stars, so I'm pretty sure it's the Mithrax. I just won't get any small fish. I'd rather keep the crab.

You have my sincerest condolences. Really.

There are other brittles besides Ophiarachna incrassata that will catch and eat fishes and other mobile creatures, these are the most well documented, to the best of my knowledge.

Not fish, but I've horror stories of large adult mithrax with softies.

Me too.

I think you should set a trap and see what you can net.. or stay up with a flashlight, or set up an infrared camera and set some bait to see what comes out. Then, if you can catch it, that might help you decide what to get next (or NOT). :shock:
