I got a yellow tang and a lawnmower blennie a few weeks ago. I have been feeding seaweed selects and they love that. I've heard alot about nori and went to look for it at the asian foods store and there were so many different kinds. Some said they were seasoned, some were different colors etc. What kind is ok for fish? I was assuming anything seasoned was out but I didn't know if there was a particular brand to choose from. I would stick with the seaweed selects but it seems like just getting nori is way cheaper and virtually the same thing. I am just a little paranoid about picking the wrong kind and fouling the tank. Any advice is appreciated!

Personally I've found that any type that is unseasoned/unsalted is fine. I previously used the red type and now use the green and my tang eats both quite willingly.

On a slightly related topic, what's the best way to clip the nori in the tank so that it isn't torn apart and floating around the tank within five minutes? :|

Sharkky, check out the tang feeder thread on the DIY forum.... the down side of the feeder is that there can be quit a bit of unaccessible nori due to the density of the mesh.

Try a few brands and find one that holds together for a relatively long period of time. Then use a piece of PVC or similar tubing, wrap the nori around it, and secure with an elastic. I use a piece of 1/2" vinyl tubing, attached to a heater suction cup with plumber's goop. It works very well.

John (aka Sharkky),

I take a sheet about 6x6, and fold it up into 1.5x1.5 before clipping it in the clip. This seems to hold up pretty well, but my tang chows it down in just a few hours. I think Minh Nguyen had a great set of pictures of how he folded up Nori for a clip feeder.

Taikonaut's suggestion (over in the DIY forum now, I had a question on how to feed large amounts of Nori to a tang) looks very clever.

To answer the original question, this is the brand I use and can get from the health food store locally. This is the green but you can get gold and red as well. Just make sure it's roasted/toasted only and not processed or seasoned and you'll be fine.

I think I get the 10 sheets for under $3.

Thanks for all the replies! I think that is the same nori that I bought and it was like 2 bucks or something. Much more inexpensive than fish store seaweed. Thanks again for the help.
