I actually keep one of those sea stars in my refugium. It spends most of the time beneath the sand. They're actually good reef animals. Perhaps some enterprising person will collect and sell them.
They're quite attractive. What do they feed on, Greg? Anything like Archaster typicus (and if so, are they obligate detritivores? Jeez.. hope I got that word right)?

The correct name is Astropecten articulatus. They inhabit sand and mud bottoms and they're common in Florida. The bulk of their diet is comprised of organic material beneath the sand bed. Similar Astropecten species are sold in the trade as sand-sifting sea stars.
