I'm still researching other options. The LFS today said an Oceanic tank with any additional holes drilled over and above the normal reef ready tank could take anywhere from 6 - 12 weeks to get. If that turns out to be true, I dont think I'll wait for something like that - maybe just go with the single overflow box with a one drain and one return line. Is there anything special I can consider with these 2 lines?

And then later on, would it be possible to do a closed loop without any predrilled holes by simply sticking tubing inlets down into the tank somewhere and plumbing to a second return pump? Again, can this be done with both flex tubing and rigid PVC? I'm still not sure how the flex tubing can be properly secured to the tank to do this.

And in the end, I'm not so sure if it will be any better than simply placing power heads here and there. What do you think?

You can use a u tube attached to pvc or flex tube to the pump and return it through a u tube with an adjustable nozzle end. You can get the u tube with adjutable return from www.marinedepot.com I would also add a swing type check valve along the line jus to prevent the pump running dry or anything. Dont forget a strainer on the intake side. Just home from work on Black friday so dont hope this makes sense.

You can just plumb it over the lip of the tank. That is what I do, and it is way better than powerheads.
