Ive been praying that this day wouldn't happen but it has. I was carefully looking at my live rock today hoping to find some new life. Well i found some, (8) of those little bastards. They are all small but I need to put an end to them. I dosed each one of them with some "Stop Aiptasia", that i got from a friend of mine today. is there any way at all to stop the reproduction of these devels? They are mainly on one piece of rock. I'm thinking of doing a Kalk dip with that piece of rock but am a little aprehensive because there are a lot of cool little multi colored feather dusters ect..on it. Help me out boys what do ya think...
Signed a desperate man ready to jump.....

first off, relax. this prolly won't be the last time you have to deal with them.

peppermint shrimp can erradicate them pretty well. that is the route i take.
the only drawback is you have to have a peppermint shrimp.
some people like them, i don't.
they eat things i want to keep but that is a price i am willing to pay to keep the Aiptasia away.
i am presently waiting on my shrimp to eat this one last anemone before i banish him to the sump.

there are other ways of dealing iwth the problem... kalk injection hot water injection, copperbanded butterfly (supposedly), a lot of hype about Joes Juice.
i have burnt them to death with saltcreep too.
it's really not a big deal if you deal with the problem now as opposed to later.

I concur,
My brother ( an idiot ) had 1 or two, but he left them alone, now he has about a million of these bad boys and even his peppermints have given up fighting!

Just be thankfull you did not get the same strain as my brothers cause they love to multiply and ruin tanks. He can;'t get rid of them!

Hey Podman, how easy are pepps to catch? I have 6 of them in my 38 and the Aip's are gone and I like to move the pepps to the fuge of my 75. What is the trick?

I'm a Copperband Butterfly convert here. I had a bad outbreak of Aptasia in my 72g at one time and the Peppermints didn't seem to get a handle on it. Sooooo...I tried a Copperband. Wow...that sucker had the tank "cleaned up" in no time. Quite impressive IMO...:)

with six aren't yours pretty zealous?

i had three at one time and i just had to feed the tank and they would swim all over the open space trying to catch it.

with one or two, i just lure them out with some food and snatch 'em.

Hey Podman, What do pepermint shrimp eat that you dont want them to eat?

i have seen them eat all sorts of things.
tube worms, peppermint snails, they are theives of anemones.... etc.
i notice much more bio- diversity when they are not present

Yes. I don't really like having that many hungary shrimp in there. That is another reason to banish them to the fuge.

I'm with Podman, first of all you have to relax bud. Aiptasia aren't the end of the world. All good aquarists get them from time to time. I have a couple in my tank that show up from time to time, and everytime they show up I simply go over to my friends who borrowed my aiptasia stop(unfortunately his tank is infested), ask for it back, then blast those little (%*(&^$.

Pick up a new product called Joe's Juice. It was far more effective for me than kalk or Stop Aiptasia. They actually eat the Joes stuff, then promptly die. Do a search, you'll read nothing but praise for the stuff.

Interesting...I have 2 cleaners and the aiptasia we're right near where they hang out. They were unaffected.

I have used Joes Juice as have many of my customers with no ill effects.
Only the demise of the Apitasia and Mojano.

Use it as directed and you will be fine.

Whoa...hold on a second....If I'm reading those correctly, there are 2 posts on this "issue". And a sum total of 2 people reported losing shrimp. The one guy lost a bunch of snails too.
Hardly evidence of anything, more than likely other tank chemistry issues.

i was referring to the "you'll find nothing but praise" comment.
