I am setting up a new tank, LFS in the area leave something to be desired.
Any suggestions on mail order companies to use? Harbor aquatics and premium aquatics seem to have a good curing process. Has anyone tried them?
Also I have only used fiji in the past. Has anyone used the more exotic types?
Thanks in advance
eric

FYI I called premium aquatics for an order and was told that they are not curing the rock lately because it is selling to fast.

I went with the premium figi showpieces from marine depot, this was awsome rock I was very impressed. Also harbour aquatics has some very nice rock.

Mikef- I've thought about making a small purchase from marinedepot.com to seed the stuff I've got in my tank. I'm unhappy with the amount of life that has come with the live rock I bought at two seperate LFS's to me. How was the die-off on what you've purchased, how long did it take you to cure? Any info you could give me would be great.

The rock of course wasnt completely cured but had no bad odor to it at all. It also had very good growth on it. I cycled my tank with it so I lost some of the growth but it came back in no time and looks really good. If you get show size the pieces are very large.

premium aqutics used to be the best, but if there just sendin out uncured rock that means your gonna get unwanted hitchhikers.... even cured rock after shipping needs to be cured.... BUT when the seller doesnt cure it you are a lot more likely to not have the dreaded bastard hitchhikers youll have to tear down for... for the prices premiumaqutics charges they should be curing there rocks and including a dude from queer eye for the straight guy to come and arrange it in your tank..... cant believe they dont cure anymore.

since you're in LI, try a trip to Paragon in Haddam, CT. The'r website has been down a while, so they may be out of business.

Paragon Aquatics, (860) 345-8462, 106 Bridge Rd, Haddam, CT 06438

I went and hand-picked all my LR for both my nanos. IT was fully cured, and was about 2 hours tank to tank, so I didn't get any die off (that was measureable)

If you are starting a new tank, why not just cure it yourself. It will save you a ton of money, as well as being ready for use after curing. A large trash can works great for this.

I ordered from TBS and was very pleased with the life on the rock. After a long time much of the life is still there. Yes you need to cure it and yes there are some unwanted hitchihkers but I think it is the best deal out there if you are into aquaculture and diminished reef destruction.

I agree with Bingo.

Dan at Paragon will ship LR. I drove up there a couple of years ago and picked up about 40 pounds of great looking rock. There was no die-off.
