That is really good news. Louey is right, if you have new growth then you should be all right.

The pic looks good, nice mantle expansion, not as much of gaping as I have seen on other clams.

I think you are out of the woods. Good going!

That is not gaping. Gaping clam must have the mantle retract, or some what retarck with large openning. In your picture, the clam have full mantle extension, so it is not gaping. Some Crocea look like that normaly

I agree, and must add that the clam looks happy as a.. CLAM (!) to be in your tank and care. Excellent work.

This clam is very healthy and not really gaping anymore, just extending its mantle to the maximum, for capturing more light for it's zooxanthellae.

Notice the discoloration between the intake and the siphon, this is a very clear sign it has spawned recently and that it was not captive farmed but wild caught, the fact that there is any shell growth means it has fully recovered.

Good on you for this success, but shame on the importer and shop that are dealing in these clams from the Philippines.

Everyone,
It's great to hear that he's probably not gaping anymore. In the beginning, it's mantle receded to about a cm from the shell at both ends.

I don't really know what happened to the rest of the clams from the same shipment at that LFS. After a couple of trips since then, all were gone. I wish I had a big enough tank to house them all.

Thanks again for all your advice and kind comments.

Minh,
I've read many of your posts and have enjoyed browsing through your website. I've also heard that you're quite the guru when it comes to Tridacna. I hope everything goes well with your new system.

seamaiden,
Thanks. I bought it for my wife, and I get to play with it every once in awhile.
