Hi everyone,

I was wondering how many fish, corals, etc. I could safely put in a 50g reef tank with a 10g sump. I was originally thinking of setting up a 25g, but now that I've decided to get a 50g + 10g sump, I wanted to get some advice on livestock. I'm interested in the following:

Bubble Tip Anemone
Orange cup coral
Ricordia Mushroom
Blue Striped Mushroom
Purple Clove Polyp
Open Brain Coral

Pair of True Percs
Pair of Longfin Fairy Wrasse
Pair of Blue Gudgeon Gobies
? Blue-Green Reef Chromis (how many would I be able to get in this size of tank with these other inhabitants? I would like to get as many as I can since they shoal, but I don't know how many would be a reasonable number)

I will also be adding various snails, a few dwarf hermit crabs and a feather duster.

Will this be too many fish/corals for the tank? Will the different corals be ok together?

Thanks in advance for your help...hopefully with your advice and some more reading/research my dream tank will be taking its first steps towards becoming a reality in the next month or two!!

I had bad luck getting chromis to get along in a 55g. One turned bully on the others and terrorized them one by one until they perished. I have since heard others have similar experiences in tanks of that size, although I know it has worked for some people. So I would say it is a toss up on those.

Good choice on the blue gudgeons, those guys are nice! I think the fish you mention, excluding the chromis, would make a wonderful display with the corals you are considering, and would leave enough room if you ran across another "must have" fish at the store.

Of course you probably know that you must have every inch of your tank covered, or you will find one of those wrasses on the floor one day!

Thanks for the advice Laura....I had read mixed reviews about the Chromis so I'm glad you mentioned your experience with your 55g. I wasn't sure about those guys...some people say they are calm and non-aggresive, but others say that they turn into true Damsel bullies once they get larger in size.

Yes, I do plan on having my tank completely covered - I don't want any suicidal wrasse winding up on my carpet! :)
