I have a duel 175 MH setup. I do have coraline growing but it is very slow and only on the rocks that had growth on them when I bought them. I could care less about the coraline at this point I mainly want to get rid of the hair algae. That crap is pissing me off. I am getting ready to set up a new tank and dont want to move the problem over to the new tank. I know I will proly have this happen in this new tank at some point but I want to be cautious anyway. I have had this tank for almost two years and never had an algae problems. Now I cant get rid of that crap. Does anybody know if I set up a small tank and kept that water perfect if I could put the rocks with hair algae on them in there and rid each rock one at a time of hair algae? Kinda like a hospital tank for the LR.
is it green algae? I had a buddy that was getting rid of his live rock from his tank. It was loaded with green algae. he said that it would take over in my tank, but I had a secret weapon called a yellow tang. The green algae was gone in a week he devoured it. if you use tap water then that is probably part of the problem need ro water check to see if you have a water store in your area. I use a ro unit I bought from COSTCO $150 5 stage
I have his cousin! My yellow tang, "Wu the Tang" has decimated all traces of hair algae. Straight eradication with a prejudice. Get one to fix your problem then give him to a suitable sized new home.
A yellow tang huh? I have a yellow tang already and he does not touch the hair algae. Im not about to keep buying yellow tangs until I find one that eats the stuff. That would get expensive. Sucks!
