CPR BAKPAK air stone mod?

I need to bump up my bakpak skimmer to get more out of it. I"ve heard people talking about the "air stone mod". I know what the mod does but I dont know how to do the mod.
Where does the air stone enter the chamber?
Do I have to drill a hole in the divider between the two chambers?
Does it enter through the tank return chamber? under the divider?

the air line snakes thru the chambers from the return. In most cases, you can get the bakpak to work with modestly loaded 90 gal reef tank if you install a air valve on the venturi intake. You adjust the intake so that the bubble is smallest without compromising total number too much. Did you do that already?

I can't seem to get much control with the venturi, but the airstone mod has worked well for me. Put a string on the airstone so you can pull it up to change it. It's a bit of a PITA getting in there.

I would be careful with trying to upgrade the bakpak. You'll cause excess bubbles to get into your tank from the increase volume of bubbles...which can annoy/irritate corals. Why are you wanting to do this...do you have algae problems? Is your water murky? Or are you just trying to have better water conditions? How large is your tank...As the bakpak is rated to 60 gallons. I would advise against it if your tank is smaller than say 30 gallons.

I did mine slightly differently.

The ridgid tube allows me to get the airstone out easily.

Unreal! I did that pic back in '98 or '99 and attached it to a message to a fellow reefer to help 'visualize' what I was talking about.

Someone emailed me and asked a question about it a couple of weeks ago... I had no idea it was on the reefcentral "mods" section... it's an embarrassing attempt at MS paint art... not really a mod.

I can't believe it's still around.
