Would like some advice on good snail/crabs to keep.

I am using astrea and turbo snails. The astrea snails are a PIA because they always seem to tip over. The Turbo snails are a PIA because they are too darn big and get lodged in spots. Both snails require you to get in the tank on a regular basis which is something I would like to avoid.

I have used blue legged hermit crabs which are OK but I can't see them devouring a turbo snail before it pollutes the tank.

Thanks for your help!!

advise on hermits..... i think they're a big ol pain in the ass, period. I have a bunch of astrea snails(my favorite for glass/rocks), margarita snails, and nassarius snails for the sand bed. I don't have a single hermit in my tank, i just hate having to worry about them needing bigger shells, and on the same token, worrying about them eating my snails if i don't put in enough shells!

just my 2 pennies :P

I also like ceriths and nerites. For the nerites, you kind of have to watch for ones with black and white striping on their shells. The others are generally intertidal and crawl out of your tank.

I mainly stick to cerinths for snails. Not the eaters that turbos are but don't knock things over either and are extremely low maintenance. Once a tank is established you don't have to worry about the hermits being able to take care of a dead turbo. The bristleworms will make quick work of it. :)
