I am looking for a book that would give me photo and a description of the characteristics of each of the most popular/common saltwater fish, corals, inverts, etc. I like the section in the Dr.s Foster and Smith catalog, but it doesn't list enough.

Is there one book out there that is the "Illustrated Bible" of reefkeeping?

Thanks,

Julian Sprung has several books and the two I would recommend:

Inverts, A quick reference Guide and Coral, A quick Reference Guide.

For fish...not sure.

I'm not sure if there's one book that covers most critters (there are so many!) But for fish, I definitely think Scott Michael's unfinished Reef Fishes series (volume 1 is out) will be THE books for aquarium fish.

right now I have Burgess's Marine aquarium fish atlas. it's okay, a bit dated, and basically gives you info for a group of fish, not each species.

For fish I like Scott W Michael's 'Marine Fishes 500+ Essential-to-Know Aquarium Species'. Contains just about all the fish you'll find for sale and is fairly cheap.

You will not find a single book that will become your bible. As others said, Scott Michael's book is the one for fish. For acroporas and all hard corals in general, go with Veron's corals of the world. IF you want to see bugs, slugs, and other invertebrates, Anthony Calfo and Bob Fenner's new book is great for that. For most soft corals, Borneman's book is good. Actually, his book is good for a general overview of some other stuff too.
