Hello. I bought a tank (30 gallon cube, Oceanic) many months ago to replace my current nano. I was planning on drilling holes into it for a intank overflow, and just as I was finally ready to begin setting it up, I decided to email Oceanic to make sure it wasn't tempered glass.

Turns out it is tempered. Not only is the bottom is tempered, but the sides are all tempered too. Needless to say, I wish I emailed them before I bought it, but still I'm stuck in something of an annoying situation.

Are there any options other than a hang-on siphon overflow? I'd love to still use this tank; afterall, it is a beautiful looking tank, but I'll never trust a siphon. If a hang-on I must have, then what kind is the "best," or at least the "most reliable?" CPR? Life-Reef? Other?

Thanks.

In a pickle eh? :?

I unfortunatley have to use a hang on overflow, CPR CS-90. While I'm sure many will disagree and tell you horror stories with these units I however have never had a problem but I 'm finatical about maintenance and cleaning.

I am contemplating going with a lifereef overflow simply because they do not require a powerhead to keep the siphon, I could use that extra space in my sump. Good luck to yah friend...

Yeah, on their website, lifereef.com it says that they will restart automatically after a power outage, but for the life of me, I don't see how this is possible without a pump or powerhead. It almost seems too good to be true.

Anybody have one and can verify, or at least explain this?

I have a lifereef overflow in the garage. I used it for a long time (right now all tanks are drilled so its unused). I can't remember how it works exactly (been awhile since I used it), but it works GREAT. Never had a problem.

I have the overflow box with a u tube as well, there is no pump and it restarts just fine. The design of the overflow does not allow for the siphon to be broken in u tube.

Only thing you have to watch for on those U tube overflows, is that air doesnt get trapped in them, flow must be fast enough to push air threw the tube.

I do not like the cpr style, I sure wont own one, EVERY person I know that has had one has had it fail and ended up with wet carpet

Well, looks like I know what I have to do. Anybody know where I can get a U-tube overflow cheap? They're selling for $100 at lifereef, but that seems high to me.
