Is it blue and then it turns gold/brown as resin exhausts itself?

Mine usually turns gold/brown within 6 months. I find the TDS is unually unacceptable before all of the blue is gone. So I replace them before they turn gold/brown.

Do you have a TDS meter?

Is it possibly you could be having a flow problem in that chamber? I wonder if the water could be circumventing the DI filter?

What if he simply has pristine water???

well that is what i have been considering... a friend with the same filter and unit (spectrapure) has never had one turn gold either.

i don't don't have a TDS meter. i think i will ask around at LFSs about the common lifespan of a cartridge here.
we do have very soft water here in Portland but IIRC it is not low in organics.

Pump some salt water thru it, and if it don't turn gold, you tank water is very fresh too ;)

Seriously, get/borrow a TDS meter, and test the input and output and see if it is doing it job.
