Black Diamond carbon

Has anyone done a phosphate test on black diamond carbon, I think it is made by marine land.

just wanted to let you know that marineland makes that.... the REGENT brand at wal mart is half the price of black diamond and is in fact the same carbon...

as for "on topic", i don't like Black Diamond. not that you asked my opinion but BD carbon doesn't seem to be as effective (as in, it seems to become inactive sooner).
i must say this opinion is formed through non-scientific personal experience.
but keep in mind, i use mucho carbon because the caulerpa i keep (a better description would be "plagued with") tends to yellow the water quickly and i seem to need a batch every couple of weeks just to clear things up.

In our testing, we found that Black Diamond carbon did not leach excess phosphates.

However, as p-man states above, it is also not the most effective. Although it does outperform some of the harder pellet-based carbons like Kent, it does not come close to Two Little Fishies Hydrocarbon which is the best we've found for color removal and leaches 0 phosphates.

Not to hijak but what about this:

Aquatic Marine Technological Premium Activated Virgin Carbon

I have been using this stuff and when I put it in the water is sounds like poprocks. It always makes micro-bubbles for about 30 minutes until the water saturates it.

the "pop rock" effect supposedly has nothing to do with how active the carbon is.

In a carbon study done by an independent source that I read a few months ago had Black Diamond and I think Marin carbon at the top of it's twenty carbon brand test. Marinelands black diamond had the lowest dust level and had the most durability. Some of the lesser ranked brands but higher prices was seachem's and kent's, both with a high price and a high amount of breakdown and dust occurence.

I've used Black Diamond carbon in past, and I didn't think it was effective as other brands I have used. JMO

I hate Black Diamond because of the excessive dust. No matter how much I rinse it before putting it in the tank, the dust never stops. Most of the dust shows up in the skimmer cup and sponges. Besides, it is more expensive.
