After breaking 2 lab style (glass) floating hygrometers I am ready for a refractometer...

I know nothing about them except what the webs sites tell me.

Which is the best (read good quality and OK price) brand and model to look for?

Get one that doesn't need to be calibrated with a screwdriver.

Just about all of them require an adjustment - i would be leary of one that does not require periodic calibration. Calibration is simple use ro/di water adjust to 0. not rocket science.

ATC - Automatical Temperature compensation look for that so you dont have get your water at an optimum temperature - most do this now but double check

Agreed on the ATC. Yes they all need calibration. It's just that the ones that need the screwdriver are a PITA.

Is the "Captive Purity" brand on Marine depot the only one with a scrwedriverless calibration?
It is all I could find on the net (and none on eBay :( ).

Thanks for all the help!!!

I got a Pinpoint Salinity Monitor for Christmas last year. This is something I would not thought of buying myself, but I really love this thing. Great piece of equipment!
