I got some live rock from a friend and it is covered with coraline algae its been about a month and its loosing it color kind of a fading. could it be my lighting. I run 660 watts vho lighting that is a bout a year old do i need new bulbs. the color is a purple pink color I have a deep purple that does fine

calcium level 360- 420 any help would be great

It could be that your lighting is too strong. I had only 200+watts NO lighting when I started my tank, and had some goreous coraline growth. I then added an additional 110watts CF and it does make a difference. Its depleating rapidly.

Also, do you have any heat issues? In my old tank, I noticed the coraline begin to decline when I added more light - but it was a heat issue. As soon as I lifted the fixure off the water a few inches and the tank's temp stopped creeping up too high, the coraline came back with a vengeance.

also, what about your alk?

There are different types of coraline (eg red, purple, white*, etc), some are more light hungry than others, as well as other parameters.

When switching environments, some coraline subspecies will die off, and others will start to grow. Its nothign to be worried about.
