Ive got through 3 powerheads now. and my CPR BAK PAK skimmer still doesnt not work. the first 2 were rio's the 600 then the 800. Now i bought the maxijet 1200. The 1200 would work fine.. except the adapters dont fit right on the skimmer.. so where can I get ones that do? Or is there a way to make it work? I was told from people on here that the maxijet 1200 is completly compatable with this skimmer, then i get it.. and it doesnt fit.. any help?!?

thanks,

Truley frustrated

You need the venturi attachment for the powerhead to work. You can get these at Premium Aquatics. They are very cheap. I use one on my CPR and the skimmer really skims. I have more expensive skimmers on other tanks and this one is better than some of those. PS. I just looked on Premium Aquatics website. It is under Powerheads/pumps...look under maxijet pumps....scroll down and you will see the venturi attachment kit...$3.95 Let me know if you need any more help.

P.S. Bak Paks are good skimmers for smaller tanks...I believe the Rio's are a bit of a problem..So far Ive been lucky with my Rio <knock on wood>...you wont be disappointed once you get the Bak Pak going

Okay, how are you hooking up your maxijet to the input side of the skimmer?
I just jammed the output of the maxijet (the smaller side) into the intake of the skimmer- the output fit niceley INSIDE the input tube. Then I took the air hose that comes with the powerhead and stuck it into the intake of the pump. (be careful not to stick it in too far, or you'll jam the impellar.)

I can post pics if you need them.

Why don't you call the manufacturer, tell them about the problems you are having and see what they suggest?

They are made with Rios and the Rio has a special venturi configuration that generally cannot be duplicated.

As for Rio's bad reputation for failure, in my experience, this is with models 1700 and up - I've personally seen a 1700 and a 2100 nuke tanks. I've seen the smaller ones quit working but never with detrimental effects on the tank, other than the water stopped moving.

Contact CPR and perhaps they can troubleshoot for you. They are a good skimmer, you should be able to tweak it fairly easily.

If you get totally pissed with it ive heard of some success with an air stone (wooden type) dropped into the chamber connected to an air pump. kinda like the Cyclone mod. I second throwing it in the trash though, Deltec make an awesome hang on skimmer now, or perhaps a small Tunze internal might be more cooperative.
