Just returned from a visit to Aquarium Adventure in Carle Place. A decent selection of fish; all the tanks were clean and the fish appeared to be healthy. They did not have a good selection of corals. They had a ton of dry goods. Oh, and by the way, their prices are ridiculous! Probably the highest I have seen at any area LFS.

They have a program where you pay a one time fee of $50 and then receive a 25% discount on all livestock. Has anyone done this?

:bigeyes2: Are you serious? You didn't misunderstand? Last I was there it was like $15.
That 25% off is not worth it either, since you were there you saw that there mark up on their live stock is totally rediculous.:banghead:

I've been there, its where I got my LR. I think you're talking about their fish club, its like $5 and you get 25% off livestock and some % off dry goods and think there was another % for other stuff dont remember. the live rock (cured) I was getting was like $9 a lb and with the card its like $7. Its also the only shop I've been to for reef equipment/goods since I just got my nano and all I've gotten so far is test kits and LR so I dont know how they compare to other shops. was last minute and its right down the street from me, i definitely needed the kits and just got a few lbs of the LR, but I will check out other places for stuff, I'd like to visit a few other shops and see how they compare. the store is pretty nice tho, my fiance loves that tank in the middle that overflows so it looks like its a cube of water (in case anyone wants to get me an early b-day present its about 3500 :Up_to_som )

Hey Blue, when I first joined up it was $5 and that was when they 1st opened. My membership expired, and I was told it was now $15 that was back in Feb. When were you told $5?

the price was definitely $49.99 for the fish club. It was for all livestock and no dry goods. It may be a one time payment and then you get the 25% off for life (or until they close).

Blue - Mike you should both check other places out before you pay those rediculous prices. Even with the 25% discount you can still do better else where. Check the vendors here, and at least Coral Factory (SeaVision in Astoria). I only use the membership at Aquarium Adventures for the dry goods when I can't wait for shipping.

I am still researching and don't plan on purchasing anything for a while. When I do I am definitely going to go with one of the vendors on this site; everyone seems to be very pleased with them. I try to visit as many LFS as I can just to see how they differ; what their prices are like and how they keep their livestock.

Aquarium Adventure is another store where there is a large turnover in staff and very little turnover in corals. They used to maintain a nice cube sps tank which has really gone downhill. Because their corals are so overpriced they dont sell them. I have seen many nice corals just whither away in that shop. I was able to purchase a nice cynarina at a good price and nurse it back to health. Their aquarium maintenance leaves something to be desired. There used to be a couple of passionate reefers that worked there but they have since moved on. It seems like most of these stores have a high turnover rate with staff. I guess the perks are being able to get corals and livestock at a good price, but the pay is probably not that great.
