Why yes My lord,
I understand how the momentum and the mythology can build.
I'm a field person, commercial collector and trainer of many fisherman who used cyanide. Mac has ruined the movement to get this done right for years and must now get out of the way.
Locals, commercials and village savy professionals need to comprise the field teams that convert divers. This is not MAC methodology but that of a new group finally rising to the task. There will be much news soon on this.

Lord,
6 years and millions of dollars later...they are still starting!
Its living off the issue for corporate promotion.
We have had a forestry council, [ of logging interests] a marine steward council [ of seafood interests] and now an aquarium council [ to whitewash the cyanide based marine fish industry.]
Reform...yes. Just slick P.R. no.
Steve
PS. Did you ask if I supported cyanide capture of fish?
Interesting question. I may be the only wholesaler among two or three who doesn't support it. Purchasing is support. The entire trade purchases cyanide fish every week!
Dealing only in netcaught supply lessens the variety and that fact alone loses support among buyers...Alas, we deal in this lessened variety and pay the price for the 'foolish ethics' of doing so!

Heh,

Steve Robinson (aka Cortez Marine) used to convert fisherfolks who used KCN or NaCN to using monofilament nylon...

Wander over to the "Industry behind ..." forum and prepare to be wildly entertained.

I don't think you need cyanide to capture those wily RBTA's (what the heck is the R for anyway? I vaguely remember BTA:Bluetooth (oops! Bubble tip) anemone). Not sure how either MAC or cyanide came up with anemones, unless anemones are not sustainably harvested.

Tran,
Now look! You had to bring up the anemone "harvest" question.
Unsustainable in the extreme my friend are many species. The main wipeout however is of carpets...ritteris, long tentacled and sebaes.
They come from futher and futher away all the time now.
To keep up with the clownfish boom, wild anemones are sacrificed in amazing numbers...negating generation after generation of wild clownfish.
It still has nothing to do with MAC though. They know nothing of this.
