I have a toadstool leather & a yellow finger leather that close up every time for several days I feed meaty type foods. Current is good on them & lighting is 220 watts of pcs in a 55 gal. Is this normal, and what causes thisif so. Is it a feeding response? I do notice that my skimmer gives out micro bubbles when meaty foods are fed, so I turned it off & it seemed to help, but the next day they were closed again. someone please help.

It could be a feeding behaviour. But it is odd that they do it everytime you feed meaty foods, especially for a few days.

What foods are you feeding and where were they purchassed?

By yellow finger leather, do you mean it's a Sinularia sp.? If so, my Sinularia sp. closes up every few days and shed. I gather this is normal behavior for them.

1) Leather corals do not eat meaty foods. They eat microplankton.

2) 220 watts on 55 gallons doesn't say much. Especially if it is 55 gallons tall.

3) Skimmers react to everything. Leave it on. Microbubbles don't hurt anything. It is a myth.

4) If your corals constantly close for several days that means you have a water chemistry problem. I could give you a general solution but you would just be wasting time and money. Do some tests and find out what's wrong.
