I have a Mag 9.5 pump about a month old that is tripping my GFCI circuit. That is the only piece of equipment that trips the circuit. When I plug it in (and it is the only thing plugged in) it will immediately trip the circuit.

Does anyone know of a good way of getting a replacement under the warrenty? Or... know of a fix?

Also, what is the impact on the fish now that I have it plugged into a non-GFCI circuit? (I have a grounding probe in the sump with the pump)

Even a brand new Mag/Rio/Eheim can do the trick to GFCI, but if you can get any of them to admit it is defective, you must be a good orator.

It can be ignoring esp. if you have other equipment on the same circuit, and the tripping shut them down. Try to put a manual (rocker) switch between the GFCI and the Mag, and use it to turn the pump on and off, instead of plug it in and out of the outlet. I found this to give you less false positive tripping. HTH.

GFCI compares the power going out and power going in. If it notices an imbalance it will trip the circuit. If the mag is tripping it, it must be leaking power into the water. Only a few mv of loss is enough to trip the GFCI breaker so it's possible the pump would act normal when used on a non protected outlet. I would not recommend running this pump AT ALL for risk of getting electrocuted or even worse, burning windings leaching copper into the water and killing all your inverts. Wait, maybe that's the other way around.....or is it? :)

At any rate, if it's a Supreme pump, they will replace it no problem. Supreme pumps rock and have awesome support!
