I have red slime algae and have been trying to get rid of it. I’ve been told Chemi Clean is the only way. here is what Chemi Clean id advertised to do:

"Chemi Clean removes disease causing red cyano bacteria (red slime) from live coral. It oxidizes trapped organic sludge and sediment and clarifies aquarium water to crystal clear. It also promotes ideal enzyme bacteria. Chemi Clean is safe for reef tanks, all invertebrates, desirable macro algaes, nitrifying bacteria and fish. Treats 300 gallons."

Agree, Disagree with any of that?

But more importantly, does anyone think Chemi Clean is not to be used, or has any bad effects? I'm going to use it in the next day or two if I can't find a reason not to. Thanks a lot to everyone who contributes to this question.

It worked for me. Just make sure to follow the instructions and perform the water changes....

Good luck!

I have mixed results. Worked perfectly the first time I have used it. The second time it barely put a dent into the red uglyness.

I say go for it. Havent had any negative or dangerous side effects. Be prepared to do a LARGE water change after the treatment. You will be skimmerless for at least a couple of days during the treatment and untill that water change.

Here's what is avertised on the net:

"Remember to turn off UV Sterilizer, skimmer, and remove carbon before treating. Do a 20% water change after treatment. "

Is that not an adequate amount of water to change, in your (or anyone's) opinion? I have a 150g so changing 50% can be a pain...

okay thanks for the info... how much of a water change did you do after you used it? Just 20%, or do you think its better to do a bigger one?

The first time I used it in my 120gal reef it got rid of all the red Cyano in about 3 days (it was pretty much a solid blanket of red).
I just finished dosing again (two times with 3 days inbetween each dose), but only a portion of it was wiped out (isn't mutation great, micro evolution at its best!). It didn't phase any of my SPS, LPS, gorgonians, nor any of my polyps.
I won't be using it again on that same tank. It will work less and less each time.

It's worked everytime i've used it.

with no adverse affects to fish or coral.

my only complaint was that the skimmer
"goes nuts" after I plug it back in for about 1 week.
