I received my new Euroreef ES5-3 yesterday.

Got a quick question, How high should the main body of bubbles be in the skimmer? How far up the neck?

I have had it running all night last night and it is making some green foam but not it the cup yet. I guess to raise the bubble level higher but curious on how high?

Its probably all personal choice Rob.. - I run my ES5-2 (which runs in a little 30g mini) so that the main body of bubbles ends right around the cup union after cleaning. This equals about 3" from the top of the riser once it settles back in to normal duty. What I get out of it from there is a fairly dry, thick, dark brown skimmate with the green stuff accumulating around the top of the riser tube/bottom of the cup cover.

Thats just me though.. Some prefer to pull a lot wetter than that, others run 'em even drier.. <-shrug->

Howdy,

Let the skimmer break in for a few more days. There are usually some "oils" or other lubricants still left over from the manufacturing process. I know in the owners manual for my CS6-3 that it says to let the skimmer run from a few days to a week before "setting" the riser level.

Once the skimmer is broken in, you should be able to find a level at which you are happy with the skimmate.

peace,

Scott.
