I bought a devils finger (hand) about a month ago and it seems to be doing fine as it opens up during the lights and closes up when lights turn off. My question is it has not brought out it's pulips yet and was wondering if that means it is not happy.

Thanks for the help.

For many soft corals, especially Sarcophyton and Lobophytum leather corals, it sometimes takes weeks before it exposes its polyps. And even once established, these types of corals are known to close up for weeks at a time while shedding its outer skin of algae and bacterial growth.

You may want to consider moving it into a less brightly lit location for now and slowly adjust it to your lights. You cay also try a careful waving of your hands over the colony to create a gentle current that'll dust off any debris/shedding on its skin.

I have one that initially was small ~3". Only opened at night without polyp extension under 250W MH. I moved it to the bottom of my display with 400WMH and it tripled in size and now has white polyps out all day.
Give it time.
