I am looking at getting a digital tds meter and digital ph tester. Does anyone have any suggestions on which ones might be good to get or does it really matter. As far as the tds do I need one that goes higher than 999 or is that good enough.

Any help is much appreciated

thanks

For measuring saltwater, you need something that can do 35ppt or 35000ppm (NaCl standard). A 999ppm TDS meter won't do you good unless you are talking about 999 ppt (very rare meter to find, I am sure). For measuring TDS of RO or tap water, anything between 999 ppm and under should be fine.

There are a few meters that can do RO/DI, saltwater and pH, but they are going to cost you about a grand or maybe half a grand. Hobby meter usually don't have the flexibility in range that can do both RO/DI and saltwater.

Check out some pinpoint economy meter, or those cheap probe-type meter commonly available for hydroponics and gardening.

Well Im not sure why you would want to measure the TDS of saltwater.

My tds meter goes up to 999 and does a great job checking my rodi and tap. The only reason to have one that reads higher is if your tap is higher than 999, which isnt too common tmk. I paid 25$ for mine from aquasafecananda, ebay store.

For the ph, I love my pinpoint meter. I havent heard fantastic things about the hanna or milwaukee brands.

Pinpoint, I believe, sell a salinity meter, which is essentially a TDS meter for saltwater.
