Hey,

Great to be here! Been out of the hobby since 98 and am jumping back in. I have a 225 Oceanic on order and with all the skimmer choices out there I am at a lose. LFS all want to suggest what they sell. Need expert opinion from non salesment.

Stand hight will be 40 inches, 24 deep. Sump 55 gal acrylic tank.

My budget for skimmer is $500, if I need to.

Will have 250 lbs of live rock, 300 lbs of live sand. 5 x 175 MH 4 x 40w flo (two hamiltons I had from '98). 1/2 hp chller (i live in the deep south).

Any suggestion on the rest of the setup or skimmer is appreciated.

And welcome back to the hobby! :P

I am a big fan of Euroreef skimmers. A CS8-2 or CS8-3 (should be within your budget) would be terrific skimmers for your tank.

I have an aqua C EV120 on about 100 gallons. You would need a bigger skimmer but I have been very happy with this skimmer design. So far very low maintenance. It took a little playing around to get it adjusted but once I figured it out I really don't do anything but empty the output. Do a search - there are some regular posts on skimmer preferences on this board.

I think euroreef's are the easiest to use, but I think a good beckett pulls out more junk. I have a MRC-1 and love it. I think PM also makes a good beckett skimmer.

Easy to moderate corals.....nothing to needy. I like the euro reef but can't go above the CS8-3 because of my sump size.....think that'll handle it?

I would say the bullet 2 and 3 are probably the best for the buck and that leaves you with plenty of mula give or take a pump :D .

Here's a link of the few a like they may or may not be within your price range for what you want especially if you don't have a pump for it. However I use one on two 125 gallon reefs displays at me store and it works like a champ. Never been more impressed with another skimmer.

Not saying they're the best place to get one justy happened to find some info on them here.
