I'm planning on upgrading my lights this week and I was wondering if I added a 175 Mh to my daylight and atinic 65 PC is there are any corals or animals that will suffer or recede in growth with the addition of this more intense light. Could I add enough PC's and be able to raise clams and possibly some SPS or are those the cutoff point between Mh and PC. Also, I recieved two Gonapora and one flame scallop for my reef and I know these guys history so should I switch them for some corals better suited for captivity. I've been told they had a better chance feeding on cyclopeze, a frozen plankton mix I'm feeding, has anyone had any long term success with either of these and if so, any advice? any opinions or tips welcome.

Thanks
Chris

Unfortunately, I don't believe very many hobbyists, if anyone, has had long term success with the flame scallop. There was a thread here not too long ago on the scallop...do a quick search and you should be able to find it.

If you can trade the Goni's and the scallop, then run...don't walk...to the lfs.

:D

Definitely trade them in.

what kind of goniopora? sp or stokesi? the stokesi variety are free standing while the sp variety appear as if they were attached to something... the sp variety are easier to care for than stokesi... either way, if you dont' want take your chances as both can be hard, trade em away... i def agree with the flame.. they don't have a very long lifespan and are even shorter in the aquarium. personal experience. i used to spot feed it until it decided to move to a very hard to reach location. it probably starved over time.

Go with the MH upgrade. It will give you more flexability in the furture. I have not heard any long term sucess with the flames either.
