UV bulb burn-out

I'm having a problem with my 9 watt uv sterilizer and just wanted to find out if anyone has any suggestions.

It has been in operation for only 6 months and the bulb has burned out twice already. the first lasted about 4 months.. the second bulb lasted only 2 months. ewh!

I've begun to wonder if the ballast or electrical components are faulty. Any help or suggestions would be helpful.

what is the brand name of the uv?

I have a 9 watt coralife UV

it is possible that the seal between the quartz sleeve and the bulb has started leaking. we have had a couple of the turbo twist uv's do just that at the shop i work at. if it is replace the uv asap because it then becomes a fire hazard.( custom sea life took their uv off of the market because almost all of them leaked and when the water came in contact with the bulb seat it was causing fires.) csl used the same bulb as the turbo twist, check for leakage, if not leaking then the ballast of the uv is letting too much juice to the bulb and burning it out too quickly.

Thanks for the update. I was reluntant in tearing apart the UV unit - but now that I have the scoop - I think I will check it out to make sure i o not have a hazard.
